Nicholas Valentino

A licensed Landscape Architect in Colorado and member of ASLA, Nicholas has spent the better part of the last decade in Colorado designing and recreating in resort communities. He joins our staff as part of a collaborative effort acting as our in-house Landscape Architect while continuing to operate his own design firm. Since studying landscape architecture at Michigan State University, he has gained experience working with numerous landscape architecture, planning, and architecture firms, as well as recreation planning with the US Forest Service. He has worked on many different project scales from detailed intimate spaces to large scale planning efforts. Nicholas discovered landscape architecture as a medium to connect his passions for the outdoors with the need to design and influence how we use, protect, and ultimately view our built and natural environments. His goal as a landscape architect is to create spaces which affect people and evoke emotion. He believes in the power of design to influence people's behavior, through both physical and intellectual means, and that emotion better creates a lifelong impression. Nicholas draws design influences from his many adventures and travels, and strives to implement designs that are reflective of place, utilizing simple materials, textures, and geometry influenced by the site. His love for the outdoors and landscape started at a young age, surrounded by the unique topography, environment and watershed of Northern Michigan. His connection to Colorado began with ski racing and over the years he found himself increasingly spending time in the mountains to pursue his other recreational interest including hiking and mountain biking until he found himself a year around resident. He best relates to a quote by John Muir: "The mountains are calling and I must go.”

The mountains are calling and I must go.
